Domino is a popular game in which a series of square tiles are laid out with one another, each tile touching the next. Each domino has a number of dots on its two sides, called pip marks. These pips indicate values, such as numbers, letters or symbols that may be used in a particular game. The first player to play a domino on its edge, then place it on the adjacent tiles so that their values match, wins. The game can be played with just a single set, or with several sets combined.
Dominoes are also used to teach children about the force of gravity and how objects can affect each other. When a domino is knocked over, it can cause an entire row of tiles to fall over.
The word “domino” is actually a diminutive form of the Latin word dominica, which means “she who takes the lead.” It’s a fitting name for this game, as it’s all about taking control and setting a course for the future. The ability of a single piece to impact everything else around it is mesmerizing.
Students with learning challenges often feel like falling Dominos, whose small movement can have a huge impact. The impact of compensating for a lack of basic skills can build until a student becomes overwhelmed and cognitively overloaded. Rather than work through the frustration of trying to compensate, some students avoid learning altogether.
A domino is a rectangular, flat-bottomed tile with pips (or marks) on each side. It is usually twice as long as it is wide. A domino can be stacked on top of each other in order to make a larger arrangement. A domino is most commonly played by two players, and the objective of most games is to make more points than the opponent. Games can be very simple or extremely complex, and the rules of each game are unique.
In comics, Domino is a mutant who was born with the power of self-determination. She acted as a bodyguard for the genius Milo Thurman before joining his mercenary group Six Pack. She later joined the time-traveling Cable, working for his Hong Kong branch of X-Corporation and fighting alongside the X-Men. Domino is a co-leader of the team along with Cable, Shatterstar and Hammer.
She was recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D to investigate a cult that uses the mutant teleportation device known as the Hecatomb, which threatens all life on Earth. While on that mission, Domino was assaulted by Prime Sentinels and implanted with a neural inhibitor that reduced her reflexes and reaction speed. She later helped sabotage Rumekistan and Cable’s island paradise Providence, and worked for X-Corporation in Uruguay before becoming the leader of a new team tasked with liberating mutants sequestered by the Office of National Emergency. Domino has since broken up with Cable and returned to her mercenary ways. She has also fought the emotion-manipulating psycho-villain Copycat. She and Cable have a psionic link that they share.
