The Basics of Roulette

Roulette is a casino game that’s a lot of fun to play. It’s a simple game where a ball is dropped onto a wheel and the player who bets on the correct number wins. It’s also a great way to try out new gaming strategies.

There are a few different versions of the game, but the most popular version is European roulette. This variant has a low house edge and is a good choice for novice players. It’s also the most played version in both physical casinos and online gambling establishments.

The wheel

Roulette wheels are made from a solid, convex wooden disk with metal partitions called frets surrounding it. On a European-style wheel there are 36 compartments painted alternately red and black. One of the compartments has the sign 0 in green, while two of them have the signs 00 and 0.

The wheel’s spindle is perfectly balanced and it rotates slowly but smoothly. It can also be flipped around for added excitement.

It’s not hard to find a roulette wheel at any casino. There are a few variations, and most have their own names.

There are three basic types of bets in roulette: inside, outside, and split. The inside bets involve the numbers on the wheel while the outside ones are based on groupings of pockets.

The split bet involves placing your chips on a line that divides two separate sections of the board. If the numbers in either section win, you’ll win a large payout.

Another interesting bet is the six-line bet, also known as a street bet. You place your chip on two adjacent lines along the side of the board, for a total of six numbers. If any of those six win, you’ll win a huge payout.

A variety of other bets can also be made. These include the split bet, a square bet, and even a transversal bet.
