A blackjack dealer must have a great deal of confidence to interact with players and encourage them to play the game. They will also need to know the rules of the game and be able to explain them clearly. They will often have to answer questions from other players, and they should be able to respond quickly.
Before dealing cards, the dealer will ask all of the players if they want to buy insurance. This is a side bet that pays out 2 to 1 if the dealer has an ace showing. Once everyone has placed their bets, the dealer will reveal their hole card. If they have a ten underneath, then they have a blackjack and will pay out everyone’s original bets. They will then take any insurance bets and begin the new round.
The dealer must be able to read the game’s rules and understand the probability of each situation. This means that the dealer must be able to make good decisions on when to hit or stand. They should also be able to keep their hands and feet clear of the table, which is necessary for good hand maneuvering. In addition, they must be able to count cards correctly and stay focused on their task at hand.
During the game, the dealer will deal two cards to each player. One of the cards will be face up and the other face down. The players will then decide whether to hit or stand based on the total value of their cards and that of the dealer’s. A player’s first two cards must add up to 21 in order for them to win. This is known as a “Blackjack” or a “Natural.” If the dealer also has a Blackjack, then it is a Push–which means that everyone gets their original bet back. Otherwise, the dealer must draw a card until their total is above 21.
